Kingsley and Nambatya, a Ugandan couple, turned to a hospital in Liwan District, Guangzhou for help on April 8th.
Nambatya who was in her late pregnancy felt a sudden abdominal pain on April 8th and was immediately sent to the Liwan Women and Children Hospital. She gave birth to a baby girl at the same day but was suffering from both a fever and obvious abdominal distension just a day later.
Kingsley said his wife’s condition stablised on the evening of April 13th and he was touched by the hospital services. “Although we didn’t ring the bell, nurses still came around even at midnight and checked regularly on my wife.”
Kingsley also praised the traditional Chinese medical (TCM) treatment the hospital adopted as an adjuvant therapy. “I have tried traditional medicine in Uganda so I said yes to their suggestion of TCM treatment. And we saw its efficacy. My wife is feeling better now.”
Signs of a high temperature understandably leads people to be more concerned at this exceptional time, but one of the hospital’s nurses said they are not worried because the hospital has taken a series of preventative measures. The nurse also added that they appreciated the couple’s understanding during the process.
“We are very touched by their move as well. The couple has been taking social distancing very seriously. Now that they have their daughter, they have become extra-cautious,” said the nurse.
