Mohammed Odeh Abu Namous is the first expat who recovered from the COVID-19 and was discharged from the hospital in Guangzhou. He is a PhD student studying at Central China Normal University in Wuhan, and traveled to Shenzhen and Guangzhou during holiday in January.
After a seminar with Zhong Nanshan, Chinese top respiratory expert, Mohammed shared his story of fighting against the infection. “My friend went to the hospital and was detected infection of the virus. Then medical staff took us all to the hospital. They detected coronavirus in my body one week later.”
“I felt really bad and thought i would die. But the doctors and nurses are very professional. They understand my body language. And sometimes phone translation helped. Step by step, I was getting better and was discharged from the hospital about one or two months later. These doctors and nurses gave me life!”
Mohammed said he loves Guangzhou and will never forget this city, but he wants to go back to Wuhan as soon as possible. “Although I’m a foreigner, I really think Wuhan is my home. I have friends there, my teachers, my building, my room and my job. This is a big experience to me.”
