As of midnight of April 27th, Guangdong had reported neither newly confirmed imported nor locally transmitted cases, but 9 new asymptomatic carriers were reported, with 7 in Guangzhou (detected among close contacts), 1 in Shenzhen (detected in a medical institution) and 1 in Shantou (detected in a quarantine centre), according to the announcement at the 58th press conference on Guangdong’s fight against COVID-19 today.

Zhou Zixiao, Deputy Director-General of the Guangdong Provincial Health Commission, stressed that Guangdong will focus on the investigation of cases. “Nucleic acid testing is considered the gold standard for confirming infection. We actively arrange tests in order to detect confirmed cases and asymptomatic carriers as soon as possible, timely control any sources of infection, shut down transmission, and manage close contacts. Nucleic acid testing is the key for effectively controlling and preventing the outbreak,” she said.

As of April 25th, around 4.5 million people in Guangdong had undergone testing.

“I hope everyone will cooperate with the investigations. If necessary, please submit yourself voluntarily for COVID-19 testing. Doing so can bring a sense of self assurance and protect your family, friends and people around you from the virus,” Zhou said.

●Guangzhou

All asymptomatic carriers had been sent to designated hospitals for quarantine and treatment. Their close contacts are subject to medical observation at designated places. During investigation 4,876 samples were collected and all turned up negative.
