On the afternoon of April 17th, Nansha FAO officers visited the expats living on Nansha street and sent the medical supplies such as masks and sanitizer.

Theodulus Odhiamb, a foreign teacher from Kenya, welcomed the officers and said his family have been staying in China since September last year.

“We seldom go out after the epidemic started and didn’t meet with friend during this period. But life is okay here, we usually buy necessaries which will be enough for three weeks every time we go for grocery shopping,” said Theodulus Odhiamb.

Nansha FAO officers introduced the ‘Suikang Code’ which is required for entering any public places such as markets and residential areas. They also explained not only expats but Chinese residents are required to take nucleic acid test(NAT). The family expressed understanding and thanked the officers for the explanation.

Henry Amo Mensah, a foreign teacher from Ghana, also said he didn’t go out frequently. He is now teaching online and only goes out for groceries. “The friendship between China and Ghana is long-lasting. I understand and support the epidemic control measures in China.”

In addition, Nansha FAO gave out pamphlets in multi-languages which help expats to gain more knowledge about the local epidemic control measures and the ways to better protect themselves.

The Nansha government stressed they provide health services for Chinese residents and expats equally. They tried new communication methods such as WeChat video chat to better communication with expats. They also worked to bring more convenience to those who were in quarantine through sending thermometers, masks and sanitizer and helping them to buy groceries and food.
