People in Guangzhou are once again able to receive their second vaccination shot. This comes after the city suspended the jab as a precautionary measure to avoid crowding. The southern metropolis is currently fighting a local outbreak of COVID-19 infections, which started back on May 21. CGTN's Omar Khan reports.

Residents in Guangzhou's Baiyun District are back at hospitals getting their second jab. The city partially suspended all vaccinations back on May 31, looking to avoid people gathering at hospitals and potentially transmitting the virus. The partial pause was also brought in to allow for medical authorities to carry out mass testing.

Building up immunity and a barrier takes time, so the first shot can also be reserved. We inoculate 12,000 people per day at our hospital, so our hospital's service is quite broad. We also have four to six medical teams going out to vaccinate students at schools and universities."

This hospital and others across the city are providing those registered with their second dose of the vaccine, and even those seeking their first jab are also welcome.

With many people returning to hospitals for their shot, staff are ensuring that despite the mass gathering and crowds, this medical center remains safe.

This allows us to arrange inoculation times at different periods. In order to ensure the safety of vaccination personnel and prevent any transmission and infection, we work closely with hospital personnel in organizing vaccination work alongside various departments."

Those on the receiving end of the needle are also expressing gratitude that the vaccination process is once again moving forward.
