Hot weather continues in Guangdong on October 5-7

After the holiday, the temperature is expected to cool down a little bit in Guangzhou, with rain expected on October 8-11. It will bring temperatures down by several degrees with a high of 29℃ and a low of 24℃ on October 11.

Guangdong continues to be sunny and hot with high temperatures in a wider range during the later period of the seven-day National Day holiday. Its north-central region will experience a high of 35℃-37℃, while some cities and counties in the midwest region are going to see scattered showers with rainstorms expected in some regions.

On October 6-7, coastal cities and counties in the southern region of the province are forecast to be sunny with cloudy spells, and scattered (thunder) showers and heavy rains expected in some regions. Other areas of the province will see sunny and cloudy weather with showers in some parts. The daily high will be around 31℃-34℃ in the coastal cities of southern Guangdong and 35℃-37℃ in other regions of the province. 

There will be gale-force winds around Level 5-7 off the province's coast, which will increase to Level 6-8 on the sea surface of north-central South China Sea.

● October 9 (Saturday), cloudy with heavy rains, rainstorms expected in some regions, 25℃-32℃;

● October 10 (Sunday), cloudy with heavy rains, rainstorms expected in some regions, 25℃-31℃;

● October 11 (Monday), cloudy with thunder showers, heavy rains expected in some regions, 24℃-29℃.

China renews blue alert for rainstorms

China's National Meteorological Center on Monday renewed a blue alert for rainstorms in various parts of the country and called for precautionary measures.

From 8 am Monday to 8 am Tuesday, downpours are expected to lash parts of Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Hebei and the Sichuan Basin, with some areas experiencing up to 120 mm of rainfall, according to the center.

Some aforementioned regions are likely to encounter over 60 mm of hourly precipitation accompanied by thunderstorms and gales.

The center has advised local governments to make preparations for the rainstorms. Drivers have been alerted to watch out for flooding and traffic jams.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.

Chinese mainland reports 26 confirmed COVID-19 cases

The Chinese mainland recorded 26 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Monday, all from overseas, data from the National Health Commission showed on Tuesday.

In addition, 15 new asymptomatic cases were recorded, while 348 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation.

This brings the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland to 96,284, with the death toll remaining at 4,636.

The total number of confirmed cases in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan region is as follows:

Hong Kong: 12,230 (11,926 recoveries, 213 deaths)

Macao: 74 (64 recoveries)

Taiwan: 16,255 (13,742 recoveries, 844 deaths)

Macao reports 3 COVID-19 cases, new round of mass testing starts

China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Monday reported three new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the SAR to 74, according to the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Center of Macao.

The SAR started the third round of mass testing late on Monday, which is scheduled to be completed within three days.

The 72nd case, a 46-year-old housing decoration worker from the mainland, had stayed in Macao since Sept. 26 and the man had stayed at three hotels in Macao during the past days, the center said.

The 73rd case was a 52-year-old male co-worker of the 72nd case. They had been working together recently, said the center. The 74th case was a 40-year-old Vietnamese man who had worked at the working place of the prior two cases.

The source of the infections is unclear yet, the center said.

Lo Iek Long, director of the Macao Health Bureau, warned against the risk of community spread of the virus, calling for residents to stay at home as much as possible.
