Dance Drama: The Painting Journey—The Legend of A Panorama of Mountains and Rivers

Produced by China Oriental Performing Arts Group and the Palace Museum, the dance drama combines Chinese poems with dance movements as well as a story taking place in both contemporary and ancient worlds.

The audience will follow the perspective of a researcher of the Palace Museum and learn about how a talented young painter named Wang Ximeng drew “A Panorama of Mountains and Rivers”, which is the only work handed down by him.

The performance will be led by Li Xianhua and Zhang Guangwu, both famous Guangdong Han Opera actors. It is mainly based on the selected excerpts of classic Guangdong Han Operas, while the audience can also enjoy Han music and the adaptation of a piece of Han song named "Snow Adopted After the Tune of Chin Yuan Chun".

Highlights of Leizhou Opera

Originating in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province, Leizhou Opera is one of the four great Han opera styles performed in Guangdong and is listed among the third batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritages.

The primary instrument of Leizhou Opera is the leihu, a kind of orchestral instrument, and the music of this opera is incredibly rhythmic. This show will be led by Lin Fen, a representative actor of Leizhou Opera. She will perform the excerpts of classic Leizhou Opera with her students, including the play that won her the Plum Performance Award.
