Guangdong started its highest-level wind prevention emergency response on the noon of Friday. The province also carries out disaster preparedness measures in likely-affected areas to minimize the effect of any loses.

As of 14:00 of October 8, 264 precipitation stations in Guangdong recorded 24-hour accumulated rains of 100 to 250 millimeters (which denotes extremely heavy rain).

Due to the influence of Lionrock’s peripheral circulation, heavy rains will continue into the weekend in the west of Guangdong and the Pearl River Delta, the province’s weather forecast said.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Kompasu, the 18th one of this year, has formed over waters near the Philippines yesterday and may affect Guangdong after entering South China sea from October 12, according to current projection of the storm’s path.
