Three working groups set up by Guangzhou municipal and district administrative departments for education conducted unannounced visits on 20 off-campus training institutions to check illegal operations including giving classes without licenses or beyond scheduled time on October 3rd and 4th.

Generally, curriculum-based tutoring institutions have practiced the guidelines of easing the burden of excessive homework and off-campus tutoring for students undergoing compulsory education, and most of them called off classes during the National Day holiday.

However, there are some institutions still violating rules.

Inspectors found that 3 junior middle school students were receiving one-to-one class and no qualification information of teachers are publicized in Longwen Education, No. 1 Liwan Road.

Issues including teachers lack of certification and no publicizing of teachers’ certificate were found in Zhuoyue Education, Guangdong Huaxin Building, Yuexiu District.

A teacher from Zhuoyue Education in Dashadi East Road, Huangpu District, also failed to provide teacher qualification certificate.

Since the beginning of this semester in September, Guangzhou has been strengthening checks on the practice of guidelines. As of October 4th, the municipal government has organized 9 law enforcement inspections, conducted random checks on 89 institutions, and 110 cases of breaches were found.

Municipal and district administrative departments for education will continue these checks and information from public tip-offs on these wrongdoings are welcomed.
