Having landed on Hainan province this afternoon, typhoon Kompasu is forecast to continue to bring high winds and rains to Guangdong.
According to Guangdong Meteorological Observatory, on Oct 13 and 14, western coast of Guangdong will be hit by level-9 to 11 gales, with gusts up to level 13; southern and eastern Guangdong will be pounded by heavy rains, locally torrential rains.
On Oct 12, Guangdong has issued level-IV prevention emergency response, suspending ferry, water bus, scenic spots and schools in some areas:
1. Ferry services at Qiongzhou Straits and Fangjidao of Maoming were closed on Oct 12, and those in Zhuhai as well as Chuan Island of Jiangmen were closed on Oct 11.
2. All water buses running in Guangzhou have been suspended since Oct 11.
3. By now, quite a few scenic spots in Guangzhou have been closed, including Baiyun Mountain, Yuexiu Park, Guangzhou Zoo, Guangzhou Children’s Park.
4. Under the yellow alert issued by Nansha, schools in the district are suspended for one day on Oct 13.
Other immediate measures against the raging typhoon have been also taken in Guangdong. Guangzhou has sent over 7,000 personnel with 549 rescue vehicles to inspect 5,459 areas at risk of wind and floods. Zhuhai has arranged over 13,000 rescue workers in position and provides 204 refuges. Shantou has halted all open-air work and shut down coastal scenic spots. Also, measures are being taken to protect sheltering ships and stranded passengers.

3-day weather forecast of Guangdong:
Oct 14: Heavy rains to showers in southern Pearl River Delta and coastal areas in western Guangdong, cloudy with showers in other cities of the province. The temperature will be 19-26℃ in northern Guangdong, 21-28℃ in the Pearl River Delta, and 23-29℃ in other areas.
Oct 15: Showers to downpours in Leizhou Peninsula and the Pearl River Delta, cloudy in other areas.
Oct 16: A new wave of cold fronts will bring cloudy and cool weather to the province.
