Guangdong recently issued a development plan for the Guangzhou-Hong Kong Smart Manufacturing Cooperation Zone. To deepen cooperation between Guangzhou Development District and Hong Kong, the zone will enhance industrial cooperation and rules connection with Hong Kong.
Covering a total area of 56.39 square kilometers, the zone will be located at the west of the Guangzhou Development Zone. It will be divided into three parts highlighting smart manufacturing, scientific & technological innovation and livable community respectively.
The plan includes a 19.1 km2 smart manufacturing park, it will promote the development of smart manufacturing and further integration with Hong Kong's productive service industry, new-generation information technology, high-end equipment manufacturing and other new pillar industries.
There will also be a 11.7 km2 scientific innovation park, it will mainly focus on sectors such as artificial intelligence, bio-medicine. In addition, it will introduce high-level scientific research institutions to build service platforms for major scientific and technological innovation, scientific finance and human resources, as well as building a number of industrial clusters for emerging industries.
In order to provide more convenient living environment for Hong Kong, Macao youths and talents, a 25.59 km2 livable community is included in the strategy, with complete supporting facilities such as 5G applications, smart medical care, and smart transportation, from here we will witness promotion of cooperation in the fields of education, medical treatment, culture and tourism.
According to the plan, the zone's smart manufacturing will accelerate joint development with Hong Kong's advanced industries such as industrial design, shipping and logistics, and financial services by 2022. Also, a number of demonstration projects and cross-border service platforms will be launched for smart manufacturing.
By 2035, the zone will establish rules in line with Hong Kong and international standards. The overall level of smart manufacturing industry will lead in the world, helping the Greater Bay Area to participate in global competition and cooperation.
