On October 19, both the men and women men's wheelchair basketball teams prevailed in the finals of the 11th Chinese National Games for Persons with Disabilities which were held in Xi'an, Northwest China's Shaanxi province. The Guangdong men's team achieved their first gold medal in this event when they defeated the Beijing team with 68:60 and won the final championship for the first time. Additionally, the province's women's wheelchair basketball team also defeated Beijing 45:42 to claim another gold medal again in the games.

Wheelchair basketball is played by people with physical disabilities, such as spina bifida, birth defects, cerebral palsy, paralysis due to accident, and amputations of legs. It originated in 1946 and was listed as an official event in the first Rome Paralympic Games in 1960.
