Foreign nationals living, working and studying in Guangzhou now have another great channel to take a deeper look into China commencing November 22! 

The Launch Event of Guangzhou Foreign Expert’s Book House was held on Monday in Guangzhou International Cooperation Center, aiming at helping expats in Guangzhou learn more about China’s national governance, economic development and its achievements on scientific and technological innovation amid China's expanding reform and opening-up efforts. Eight foreign experts attended this ceremony and borrowed books they like as the earliest readers.

Wu Hanrong, Deputy Director of Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, inaugurated five Foreign Expert’s Book Houses in Guangzhou at this event: Guangzhou International Cooperation Center, Guangzhou Association of International Exchange of Personnel, International Communication Center of Nanfang Media Group (WeChat: GDToday), Guangyue International Community, and Huijing International Community.

Pan Haichao, Dean of Experts Services of Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, said in his welcoming speech, “Guangzhou is the first city to establish Foreign Expert’s Book House in Guangdong province. Since June 2018,the Ministry of Science and Technology has established more than forty Foreign Expert’s Book Houses in over ten provinces. And the House has become a platform for promoting cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries.”

Meryl Dingwall is from South Africa and she borrowed Every Treasure Tells a Story and On Building a Human Community with a Shared Future. “These books are so amazing and I’m so excited that we have this chance to read them free here,” she exclaimed.

Ramon Sitjas is a businessman from Spain. He borrowed The Huawei Miracle and China in the Internet Age to learn about company management from Huawei’s success. “My business is shifting from offline form to online form. I read a news from a Spanish media recently, and it says that 51% of online sellers in Spain are Chinese, 27% are from other countries and only 22% are Spanish. So I have to learn how run my business online from China at this Internet age and these books are very helpful,” he said.

Gloire Konga is from The Democratic Republic of the Congo and he borrowed High-speed Railway in China because he wanted to enlighten his country from China’s success on railway development.

Under the guidance of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, the Foreign Expert’s Book is a project organized by the Foreign Talent Research Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology. This project intends to provide foreign friends in China with a convenient environment for reading and borrowing books, where they can get a true, multi-dimensional and panoramic view of China.
