To contain the COVID-19 resurgence, people in many Guangdong cities including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuahi, Foshan and Zhongshan, are encouraged to stay put and avoid travel during the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday, which will start Saturday.

Travel

The province's culture and tourism department also issued a notice on June 7 to advise residents to reduce long-distance travel and not to leave the province unless necessary. Although excursions to the cities' outskirts are encouraged, if you leave the city where you live, you must comply with epidemic prevention and control measures such as taking a nucleic acid test.

Before traveling, residents should pay attention to the epidemic situation in their destinations and do not travel to medium- and/or high-risk areas for COVID-19. People who have travelled to any areas of medium or high risk for COVID-19 should report their travel history as soon as possible to the community when they go back to their city.

Residents should also pay attention to natural disasters during the journey, and do not enter undeveloped protected areas, reservoirs, uninhabited islands and other areas that are not open to the public to avoid accidents.

As of June 9, the city of Guangzhou has temporarily closed 32 A-class tourist attractions including Chen Clay Academy, the Museum of the Nanyue King of Western Han Dynasty, and Lingnan Impression Garden, according to the Guangzhou Municipal Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau. All types of public cultural and tourist venues located in medium and high-risk areas as well as the lockdown areas have been closed temporarily. In addition, cultural tourist events will be held online to avoid gathering. Travel agencies are not allowed to organize tours out of Guangzhou or Guangdong and residents are recommended not to leave Guangzhou or the province if not necessary.

Protective measures

Citizens are encouraged to adhere to personal protective measures, such as wearing masks, washing hands frequently, avoiding crowded places and gatherings, and get vaccinated as soon as possible.

Experts remind residents to avoid undercooked food, unsterilized milk, unpeeled fruits and raw vegetables, and should instead choose fresh and safe food.

When processing food, citizens should pay attention to separating raw and cooked food, avoid food poisoning, pay attention to food hygiene and wash hands before meals. Citizens are suggested to use serving chopsticks or opt for individually served meals when dining.

At home, residents are advised to keep their rooms well ventilated and clean, disinfect rooms and stay away from fires when using alcohol for disinfection.

Regular physical activity is also crucial, according to Shenzhen CDC experts. Citizens should monitor the health of themselves and their families.

In the event of suspicious symptoms, such as fever, cough, vomiting, diarrhea, or weakened/loss of smell and taste, they should start wearing masks immediately, go to the fever clinic, and avoid taking public transport as far as possible when seeking treatment.
