The 130th session of the China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, opens today. All walks of life in Macao are excited about the upcoming Canton Fair. Many business people said in interviews with GDTODAY that they are looking forward to the Canton Fair to bring opportunities to Macao enterprises.
In recent years, under the Framework Agreement on Cooperation Between Guangdong and Macao and the plan for building the Guangdong-Macao in-depth cooperation zone in Hengqin, Macao enterprises see more opportunities. The Canton Fair provides a platform for in-depth cooperation between Guangdong and Macao, and also help Macao enterprises to overcome the impact of the COVID-19 and play a role as a bridge under the "dual circulation" plan.

Reflecting the strategic positioning of Macao as a service platform under the theme of "dual circulation"
For the first time, this year’s Canton Fair takes "dual circulation" as the theme. At the Fair Macao has set up a special exhibition area.
Alvin Fong, the managing director of the Macao Quality Brand International Certification League, pointed out that Macao can serve as a platform in the future to help both Macao and Chinese brands to go global. "Macao can become a bridge between China and the rest of the world. With its deep and extensive connections with the outside world, Macao is aiming to help Chinese brands gain international recognition through the Macao Quality Brand International Certification League. In the future, through cooperation with large and long-running comprehensive trade fairs like the Canton Fair, Macao can accelerate the development of this positioning."
The model of online and offline integration of exhibitions brings opportunities to Macao enterprises
Jose Carlos Matias, the director of Macau Businesses said, the Canton Fair adopts the online and offline exhibition modes, which are worth learning from and maintaining. "There is nothing better than face-to-face communication. But in addition to offline exhibitions, online exhibitions through video and other new media will make our communication more diversified. Singapore is already leading in this regard. But China is also following closely, making more adjustments and innovations to this new exhibition model."
Alvin Fong said that the new model of online and offline integration of exhibitions in the Canton Fair will also be of greater help to Macao companies in overcoming the impact of the COVID-19. "Because of the COVID-19, we may not be able to go out. Now we can learn about the Canton Fair and participating in the exhibition through the Internet, which is also a better solution for Macao enterprises to participate in the Canton Fair."
The Canton Fair also brings opportunities to the small and medium-sized enterprises in Macao affected by the epidemic. "Macao’s economy is largely dependent on tourism, and there's been a new round of policies of measures rolled out by the government, primarily targeting these small and medium sized enterprises. But there's another thing related to these difficulties, such as looking outward and looking for new markets, new consumers or clients, goods and services. The Canton Fair also provides them with such a platform." Jose Carlos Matias said.
