As one of Guangzhou's main traffic arteries linking Panyu District and Haizhu District, the broadened Luoxi Bridge, which consists of both the new and the old bridges and now has ten two-way lanes, was opened to traffic at 22:35 of December 6 after 41 months of construction.

As one of Guangzhou's main traffic arteries linking Panyu District and Haizhu District, the broadened Luoxi Bridge, which consists of both the new and the old bridges and now has ten two-way lanes, was opened to traffic at 22:35 of December 6 after 41 months of construction.

With a designed speed of 60 km/h, the 2.08-kilometer bridge can be crossed in 2 minutes, greatly shortening travel time and alleviating traffic pressure between Panyu and Haizhu.

On the basis of the old four-lane bridge, the renovation project has added two new three-lane cable-stayed bridges on both sides and has transferred the non-motor vehicle lane and walkway from the old bridge to the new one. Now each new bridge has a non-motor vehicle lane and a 1.9-meter-wide walkway.

Built in December, 1988, the old Luoxi Bridge used to be an important river-crossing channel linking Haizhu and Panyu and also one of the landmark bridges over the main channel of the Pearl River. As time went by, the bridge could not meet the growing traffic demands brought by the rapid economic development and expansion of Guangzhou, so the government started a renovation project in 2018.
