Initiated by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Guangdong Committee, eight Chinese private enterprises donated over 600,000 RMB worth of medical aid to six African countries on the morning of April 22nd in Guangzhou.
The 638 boxes of supplies included 82,000 masks, 5,952 bottles of disinfectant, 800 pairs of goggles and a batch of herbal tea bags with flu symptom alleviating properties.
Representatives from the six African countries attended the donation activity and accepted the donation on behalf of their countries.
Rwehumbiza, with his wife and children, has been living and doing business in Guangzhou for 14 years. Ever since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, Rwehumbiza has been working online at home and strictly followed the epidemic prevention and control measures.
Rwehumbiza said that the outbreak indeed has some impact on several aspects of his life and business, for instance he failed to order processing equipment that he needed to ship to Tanzania. However, he believes the government has done a great job in containing the virus, protecting the health and safety of everyone in the province, and minimizing the negative impact on people’s lives.
Rwehumbiza added that during the pandemic he and his family received a great deal of care and help from the local governments, CCPIT Guangdong Committee and business partners.
“Guangdong and Africa have been developing a friendly trade partnership over many years, with many Guangdong people doing business in Africa, and vice versa,” Rwehumbiza pointed out, “There might have been some misunderstandings during the epidemic prevention, but this has also enhanced our mutual understanding and trust. I believe the cooperation between Guangdong and Africa will be strengthened after the pandemic.”
The CCPIT Guangdong Committee has been committed to actively promoting cooperation between Guangdong and Africa for a long time and established the Africa-Guangdong Business Association in 2018 to support Guangdong’s investment in Africa. Throughout the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, the Committee has been working closely with African business associations in the province to offer support to African people.
