The 7th Women's Art Festival will be held at the Guangzhou Opera House with a variety of performances from March 7 to April 27. With the theme of "I am diverse," this year's Women's Art Festival will feature 13 performances covering dance drama, drama, Chinese opera, and classical music.
Dance
Choreographer Xie Xin, with her contemporary dance work T.I.M.E, will return to the stage of the Guangzhou Opera House on March 7 and 8. Meanwhile, dancer Wang Yabin will showcase her dance drama based on Norwegian playwright Henrik Johan Ibsen's The Lady from the Sea on March 23 and 24.
On March 16 and 17, the National Ballet of China will perform the Chinese ballet classic "The Red Detachment of Women," which marks the 60th anniversary of its premiere this year.
In addition, the new dance drama Blooming Life created by the Guangdong Song and Dance Theatre will premiere at the Guangzhou Opera House on April 26 and 27.
Drama
Beijing-based troupe "The Nine," who have repeatedly achieved a high reputation, will perform intelligentsia-themed plays including When We Two Partied and Symmetry Breaking.
On March 22 and 23, the all-female drama Echo The Seagull reconstructs Anton Chekhov's classic Seagull and will present the story of five girls in a small county in China. Two one-woman shows, Shirley Valentine and Be Seen, will also be staged at the Guangzhou Opera House.
Chinese Opera
On March 29 and 30, The Peony Pavilion by the Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe will be staged with three performances totaling nearly eight hours, presenting the complete edition of this romantic tragicomedy written by dramatist Tang Xianzu in 1598.
Created by the Guangzhou Cantonese Opera Theater, the new Cantonese opera Shuang Xiu Yuan will put the legend of Guangzhou embroidery on the Cantonese opera stage for the first time on April 23, showing the beauty and charm of these two intangible cultural heritage arts.
Concert
On March 9, Irish pianist Clara Isabella Siegel will present classic pieces such as R. Schumann's Carnaval, Op. 9 and J. S. Bach's Partita No.2 in C minor, BWV 826.
Additionally, German violin maestro Antje Weithaas will play J. S. Bach's complete Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin at his debut in Guangzhou on March 31.
