Star-studded Bay gala to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival tonight

A gala for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area will kick off at 20:15 on September 21st in Shenzhen, Guangdong province to celebrate the festival.

The gala will feature over 200 filmmakers and musicians from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, including martial arts star Jackie Chan, singer-songwriter Li Yuchun and Hong Kong pop star Alan Tam.

Chinese megastar Faye Wong will perform the theme song for the concert, titled Wan, which literally translates to "bay". With lyrics written by Wang Pingjiu and music composed by Chinese famous songwriter Chang Shilei, the song will make its debut at the concert.

Born in Beijing, Faye Wong moved to Hong Kong in 1987 and came to public attention in the early 1990s by singing in Cantonese. Popular in Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore, Japan, she is acclaimed as the “Diva of Asia”. Moreover, she is also known as a movie star for starring in films of Wong Kar Wai, a famous Hong Kong director.

The gala will be streamed on major video platforms, including Phoenix Chinese Channel, Phoenix Hong Kong Channel, Phoenix North America Chinese Channel and Phoenix CNE Channel etc.. With music and film, all the Chinese in the mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and the other parts of the world will gather and enjoy the breathtaking moon in Mid-Autumn Festival.

The main visual design for the gala is a bridge, symbolizing the 55-kilometer Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, which is the world's longest cross-sea thoroughfare that opened to traffic in 2018. It has become a tourist spot in the area due to its design and magnificent views.

“Life is warmer than movies, companionship is warmer than Mid-Autumn Festival, and the motherland is warmer than the moon.” said Duan Rong, director of the gala. Popular Cantonese songs from Hong Kong movies that will appeal to nostalgic fans will also be performed to celebrate the 24th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland.
