As the grand finale of this year's lychee season, the Xinxing Aroma Lychee, one of Lingnan's top ten fruits, has ripened and begun to hit the market.
Grown in the unique climate and geography of Xinxing County in Yunfu City, this lychee variety benefits from its natural advantages. Currently, Xinxing Aroma Lychee is only cultivated on a mass scale in Xinxing County, and is recognized as one of the Geographical Indication Products of China.
With a long history of cultivation, Xinxing Aroma Lychee is known for its thin exocarp, fleshy pulp, small seed, refreshing sweetness, strong fragrance, and rich nutrients. It has long been celebrated as one of Lingnan's top ten fruits.
Here's how to enjoy Xinxing Aroma Lychee on four levels:
Observe its color: The fruit's bright red hue is mouthwatering.
Eat its pulp: Fleshy and juicy, with a seed as small as a grain of rice.
Savor its taste: Sweet and refreshing, leaving a lingering aftertaste.
Smell its aroma: A delightful fragrance that lingers in your mouth after the last bite.
Since the Ming Dynasty, Xinxing Aroma Lychee has been listed as a tribute fruit. In 1900, to fulfill the tribute requirements for the Qing court, Wang Yao, the county magistrate of Xinxing, planted over a hundred Aroma lychee trees behind the government office (now part of Zhongshan Park) and delivered the harvest to the court.
In July 1972, Xinxing Aroma Lychee was showcased at the Paris Fair (Foire de Paris). In July 1992, at the first China International Modern Agriculture Exhibition, it won the bronze medal for third place in national lychee quality, as judged by an expert panel.
This summer, welcome to Xinxing County to appreciate its beautiful landscapes and enjoy the Xinxing Aroma Lychee.
