A new week begins with a break in rainfall across southern China, but Guangdong, Fujian, and Hainan are set to face stifling heat under the influence of a subtropical high-pressure system.
Temperatures are climbing rapidly, with Guangdong entering what locals describe as "grilling mode." On Sunday, Luoding in Huizhou topped the province's heat chart at 35.5°C. Though scattered thunderstorms may bring brief relief on Monday (June 23), the intense heat is expected to persist, turning some areas from "grilled" to "steamed" as humidity rises after the rain.
From June 23 to 25, most parts of Guangdong will experience cloudy skies with isolated afternoon thunderstorms. Northern and central regions could see temperatures reach 35–37°C.
Sunshine will dominate early in the week, but by Wednesday, thunderstorms are forecast to intensify, particularly along the southern coast, where heavy rain and strong convective weather are expected.
Guangzhou is bracing for three consecutive days of intense heat, with highs around 35°C from Monday to Wednesday. By Thursday, thunderstorms are expected to become more frequent. Authorities have warned of heightened heatstroke risks due to the muggy conditions, urging residents to stay hydrated and cool.
