Lotus festival draws crowds to Jiangmen's village

Visitors are flocking to the lush landscapes of Guishui Village in Jiangmen, Guangdong province, as its annual Lotus Carnival takes place. The event runs until July 15.

Stretching across several hectares, the village's lotus ponds present a striking natural canvas. Pink and white blooms emerge amidst vast fields of lily pads, creating a picturesque scene that attracts photographers and nature lovers alike.

The festival is divided into two main phases, each offering distinct experiences centered on the lotus flower.

Phase 1: Capturing the Scene (Until July 11)

A photography competition invites amateur and professional photographers to submit images showcasing the beauty of the lotus blooms and the surrounding rural environment. Designated photography spots guide visitors to key viewing areas. Awards will be given in categories like "Artistic Expression," "Special Moment," and "Creative Image." For those seeking tips, volunteers from local photography associations are available to offer guidance.

Phase 2: Market Days (July 11-15)

A vibrant marketplace will open, featuring local food specialties, handcrafted goods, and demonstrations of intangible cultural heritage. Attendees can browse products from Guishui Village farmers and participate in hands-on ICH craft workshops.

Family focus and nighttime magic

Organizers highlight several other attractions:

Family Zone: Children can engage in activities like lotus leaf painting, craft workshops, "Frog Leap on Lily Pads" games, and educational sessions about the lotus plant.

Illuminated Evenings: After dusk, soft lighting transforms the lotus ponds, creating a different atmosphere from the daytime views. A "Lotus Lantern Floating Ceremony" allows visitors to write wishes on small floating lanterns set adrift on the water.

The Guishui Village Lotus Carnival offers visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of South China's summer bloom, alongside local culture and rural hospitality, until July 15.
