As the 2025 summer railway travel season began on July 1, Shantou Railway Station implemented a new train schedule. A key highlight of this adjustment is the increased frequency of trains between Shantou and major cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), particularly the launch of four new direct services to Guangzhou Railway Station.
According to the new schedule, Shantou Railway Station now operates 111 train services daily, a month-on-month increase of 16. Travelers can now reach Guangzhou's Xintang Railway Station in as little as 2 hours and 16 minutes, and downtown Guangzhou Railway Station in just 2 hours and 50 minutes. Shenzhen North Station is also easily accessible within two hours, creating a "half-day living circle" for eastern Guangdong and the GBA.
Following the schedule adjustment annouced on July 1, the station will operate an average of 28 trains daily to Guangzhou and Shenzhen regions. During peak travel periods, five additional trains will run to Shenzhen. Notably, the four new trains bound for Guangzhou Railway Station will deliver passengers directly to a core commercial district in Yuexiu District, eliminating the need for a 40-minute metro transfer that was previously required when arriving at Guangzhou South or East Railway Stations. This adjustment significantly enhances the efficiency of both business and leisure travel..
Passenger traffic is expected to rise steadily throughout the summer travel rush, with total volume projected to achieve a year-on-year increase of 27%.
