Cathay Pacific officially opened a new digital and IT office in Shenzhen's Qianhai on July 8, marking its third tech hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area after Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Spanning 2,500 square meters and designed to accommodate over 200 staff, it is now the airline's largest office on the Chinese mainland.

Speaking at the inauguration on July 8, Cathay Group CEO Ronald Lam highlighted the company's annual digital investment of more than 3 billion HKD, emphasizing the strategic importance of Shenzhen as a national innovation hub with a strong pool of tech talent.

The Shenzhen office is set to become a central hub for collaboration among Cathay Pacific's IT teams in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. It also features dedicated workstations for staff rotating from the Hong Kong headquarters, aimed at enhancing cross-border integration and team synergy.

The expansion is part of Cathay's broader push to develop digital services that better align with the habits of travelers from the Chinese mainland. This includes refining tools such as WeChat mini-programs and AI-powered chatbots to suit local user preferences and behaviors.

Currently, Cathay's global IT team comprises over 1,000 professionals. Around 150 are already based in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, with that number expected to rise to 200 by the end of the year. The company is also running a trainee program to develop future tech leaders, offering rotations across AI, data analytics, cybersecurity, and development teams, including placements in its Chinese mainland offices.
