Original animation &comic artworks on display for free in Guangzhou

Do you want to get a glimpse of original Chinese animation & comics from the past fifty years? Do you want to know which Chinese cartoons are the most popular with kids and youth right now? Come visit the 1st China Animation & Comic Art Exhibition at Guangdong Museum in Guangzhou.

At this exhibition, you can see most of the widely loved Chinese animations & comics, from classic ones like ‘Monkey King’, ‘Nezha Conquers the Dragon King’, ‘Lotus Lantern’, and ‘Old Master Q’, to currently popular ones such as ‘Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf’, ‘Grow Up With My Daughter’, ‘Mr. Box’, and ‘Life Smartphone’.

At this exhibition, not only can you view the conventional animation & comic artworks such as design drafts, sketches, cartoon books, illustrations, sculptures and figurines, but also interact with the artworks and their creators via 3D, VR, interactive audiovisual and digital media devices.

Co-hosted by the China Artists Association, Guangzhou Municipal Publicity Department and Guangzhou Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the exhibition kicked off at Guangdong Museum in Guangzhou on the morning of December 15 and is open to the public for free until April 26, 2018.

Yoichiro Kawaguchi, famous Japanese computer graphics artist, attended the opening ceremony and gave a big thumbs-up to the artworks, saying “Marvelous! Awesome!”. He expressed that he was very pleased to see both the modern city and the colorful animation & comics exhibited in Guangzhou.

Zhu Xiaoyi, deputy director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee, said that ‘animation & comics’ is one of the ‘name cards’ of Guangzhou, and Guangzhou has been continually striving to build its own animation & comic brands.

Guangzhou leads the nation in terms of annual output and broadcast of cartoons. According to statistics, there are about 400 animation enterprises in Guangzhou, 23 of which have an annual income of more than 100 million RMB. Among them, Alpha Animation is the first listed animation enterprise in China with a market value over 10 billion RMB. Guangzhou is also the host city of China’s Animation & Comic Competition Golden Dragon Award, the premier award for China’s animation and illustration industry.

Admission: Free admission tickets can be obtained from the Ticket Office of Guangdong Museum from 8: 50 a.m. to 4 p.m. Valid ID is required for one person to get one ticket. Tickets are valid on the day of issue only.
