Cultural industry fair presents six mega-events in Guangzhou in December

Highlighting six cultural mega-events during mid-to-late December, the 2017 Guangzhou Cultural Industry Fair kicked off at Guangzhou’s Opera House on December 12.

Guests from home and abroad attended the opening ceremony and held dialogues on cultural industries. Some of the big names in attendance included British author and speaker on Creative Industries John Howkins, Director of BOP Consulting Paul Owens, Founder of LKK Design Jia Wei, and Beijing University’s Deputy Director of the Institute for Cultural Industries Chen Shaofeng.

Here are the six ongoing or upcoming cultural events that present exciting cultural activities in Guangzhou from December 11 to 24. Do not miss out.

No. 1

2017 The 3rd Guangzhou Cultural Relics Museum and Copyright Fair

December 15 - 17, 2017

No. 2 Stadium, Guangzhou Gymnasium

Open to the public for free

A total of 92 heritage institutions and museums have signed up for this year’s fair, most of which are wellknown in the country even around the world, including the National Museum of Classic Books, Beijing Luxun Museum, Inner Mongolia Museum, Jilin Provincial Museum, Henan Museum, Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum and Guangdong Museum, among many others

Over 50 museums and cultural enterprises will exhibit their own cultural and creative products at the fair. Here are some of the special things you don’t want to miss:

➢“Thousands Miles of Mountains and Rivers” painting theme products, “The Sovereign’s Regard” desserts, and “The Imperial Concubine’s Warmth” ginger tea newly developed by the Palace Museum;

➢White porcelain ‘Kung Fu tea’ tea set featuring the Sage of Tea Lu Yu and bronze rhinoceros shaped saving pot presented by the National Museum;

➢The Nanyue King’s jade seal theme paperweight and stationery produced by the Museum of the Western Han Dynasty Mausoleum of the Nanyue King.

Guangzhou International Media Harbor

The forum aims to gather cultural resources from home and abroad to build an exchange platform for government organs, enterprises, think tanks, experts and scholars to cooperate and share best practice.

Major activities include: cultural project roadshows and signing ceremonies, a forum on the integration of culture and economy, sharing sessions featuring leading figures from the National Advertising Industry Park, a selection of Top 10 cultural enterprises in Guangzhou, amid others.

Guangzhou International Art Fair

December 21-24, 2017

Area C, China Import & Export Fair Complex

Guangzhou International Art Fair is the only art fair in south China approved by the Ministry of Culture. It is one of the oldest art fairs in China and the most concerned in south of China. After 22 years’ development, it has become an indispensable platform for demonstrating the development of Lingnan art and showcasing works from all around the world.

Covering an area of about 30,000 square meters, this year’s art fair is expected to hold more than 20,000 original art pieces presented by over 390 art institutions from 38 countries and regions all over the world. The admission fee for the art fair is 50 RMB, however, the good news is a total of 150,000 tickets will be given to the public for free. Stay tuned for how to score your ticket.

China International Performing Arts Fair | Guangzhou 2017 (CIPAF)

December 11 - 14, 2017

Guangzhou Opera House

Over 20 activities were held at the opera house, such as special performances presented by famous performing arts institutions in China, a lecture on how to apply for China’s National Arts Fund, a lecture given by American musical theatre actor Brad Little, and a performing market and internet roundtable.

A total of 427 representatives from 232 institutions from over 30 countries and regions took part in the fair, including Arts Midwest from the USA, INTERKULTUR Foundation from Germany, and China National Arts Fund.

2017 Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival (GZDOC 2017)

December 11 - 14, 2017

Guangzhou Library

GZDOC is the only national documentary festival incorporating investment, financing and trade. GZDOC 2017 places special focus on promoting 4K documentary production by establishing a 4K Theme Booth at its main venue Guangzhou Library, setting up a 4K Section on its online Docshop, holding 4K documentary theme forums and classes, and screening 39 domestic and foreign 4K documentaries in Guangzhou.

As one of the names at GZDOC, the Golden Kapok Documentary Film Screenings already kicked off on Dec. 2 and will run until Dec. 17, screening over 100 documentary films in 26 venues around Guangzhou, including most movie theaters, culture and art centers. And 39 of the documentaries have been selected for the final of Golden Kapok Award Competition, and the winners will be announced at the closing ceremony of the festival on the evening of Dec. 14.

China Culture & Creative Industry Conference Tianhe Summit

December 12-13, 2017

Guangzhou Opera House, Yangcheng Creative Industry Zone, Yueda Financial City International Hotel

More than 160 opinion leaders and about 300 culture & creative enterprises at home and abroad were invited to the summit, participating in 8 dialogues on culture & creative industries and 9 industry-themed conferences. Focusing on the prospects of the creative industry, this event provides guidance and support for China’s culture & creative industry, boosting and furthering the integration of the industry.
