The 12th World Congress on High-Speed Rail, jointly hosted by China Railway (CR) and the International Union of Railways (UIC), opened on July 8 in Beijing, focusing on the theme High-Speed Rail: Innovation and Development for a Better Life".
China has built the world's largest, most technologically advanced, and most operationally diverse high-speed rail network. With a total operating mileage of 48,000 kilometers—accounting for over 70% of the global high-speed rail network—it now covers 97% of all Chinese cities with a population of over 500,000.
Represented by the Fuxing Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) trains, the number of EMU trains operating in a single day in China can reach 10,000, with daily passenger volumes exceeding 16 million. To date, EMU trains in China have carried more than 22.9 billion passengers.
As one of the busiest sections of China's railway network, CR Guangzhou Group primarily operates railways in the southern provinces of Guangdong, Hunan, and Hainan, with a total operating mileage of 11,884 kilometers. Of this, 5,816 kilometers are high-speed railways with speeds of 200 km/h or above.
From July 1, 2025, a new train schedule will be implemented. Under the new plan, the group will operate 3,241 passenger trains and 162 freight trains.
During the summer travel rush, CR Guangzhou Group is expected to transport 133 million passengers, averaging 2.142 million per day, with a year-on-year increase of 5.8%, setting a record high for the same period. The peak day is projected to be August 9, with 2.56 million passengers expected to be transported, an increase of 6.1%.
