An AI-powered “virtual doctor” developed by Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center can accurately diagnose 24 pediatric diseases, China News reported on Dec. 6.
After learning 2 million real medical records, the AI doctor can diagnose 32 types of diseases, among which the diagnostic accuracy rate of 24 diseases can reach 90 percent. It can give suggestions on medical treatment based on patients’ symptoms, according to the hospital.
The AI doctor is mainly used to provide doctors with assistance in medical diagnosis and making follow-up therapeutic schedules, said Liang Huiying, director at the hospital’s clinical data center.
Liang introduced that, at present, doctors usually give feedback on diagnostic results recommended by the AI doctor to upgrade its diagnostic abilities.
As for the next step, the AI doctor will continue to learn how to diagnosis more diseases and is expected to communicate with patients through a voice interaction system, Liang disclosed.
