Limburg’s innovative FibriCheck company charms China during the international pitch competition

FibriCheck is the first medically accredited solution that is capable of the early detection of heart arrhythmias using an app on your smartphone.

Heart arrhythmias, with atrial fibrillation being the most common, are responsible for 20 percent of all strokes. 75 percent of these strokes can be prevented through timely screening and active follow-up. You can use FibriCheck to measure your heart rate using the app on your smartphone by putting your finger on the camera for 60 seconds. Your doctor can intervene in a timely manner if the measurement is positive. FibriCheck now wants to go a step further and is launching its product across all of Belgium. Dozens of general practitioners and various health centres have already started recommending the app.

At the request of Locate in Limburg, Limburg Startup organised the Belgian pre-selection for the Thera – The Dark Horse international pitch competition. The Dark Horse is an entrepreneurial platform that assists innovative Chinese companies. In addition to operating several incubators and accelerators, they are also investing in highly promising companies and providing them with assistance, training, and coaching. Over 100,000 founders in 18 different sectors have already been assisted.

International pitch competition

The Dark Horse selects one highly promising start-up from six countries. They make their pitches on 26 November in China. The winner can set up their company in China and will be assisted with the start-up and further growth of the company.

Six start-ups battled to convince the jury. FibriCheck was the ultimate winner, taking the crown from more well-known companies. Thanks to their heart rate monitoring app, they can now investigate whether the Chinese market has any growth potential to offer.

Intensive collaboration

Limburg Startup and Locate in Limburg have already made sustainable agreements with The Dark Horse. Start-ups that want to discover the Chinese market will soon be able to rely on the Chinese incubator in Guangzhou. Here, they will not only be able to use the offices and meeting rooms, they will also get advice and assistance to find their way in this growing economy.
