Foshan and Zhanjiang will start to build new airports this year respectively, revealed mayors of the two cities when attending the press conference at the first plenary session of the 13th Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress.

Further infrastructure construction has been listed as one of ten major tasks on the newly-delivered governmental work report. Guangdong will spur the east and west Guangdong to become new economic growth poles, and form a coastal economic belt with PRD cities.

These are exactly what Foshan, a PRD city and Zhanjiang, a coastal city in west Guangdong, plan to do this year.

Zhu Wei, Foshan mayor, further elaborated that a new airport located in Gaoming District is scheduled to start the construction this year, aiming to boost Foshan to be an aviation hub in the west of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. An aviation economic zone is under planning. The new airport plans to be put into use in 3 years.

Jiang Jianjun, Zhanjiang mayor, also illustrated his city’s plan on the new airport. According to Jiang, the new airport will begin construction this year and the construction will finish in 2020. The new international airport is planning to become the third largest airport in the province, linking main domestic cities and many international cities.
