In 2008, TotorRo came out with their first EP, a promising debut that opened the door to top venues and a spot opening for headliners such as Caspian, As we Draw, and Tides from Nebula. Slowly, TotorRo has subtly cemented themselves in the french post-rock scene.

People from Rennes have proven to be exceptional riders with a penchant for the road to Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. Experience pays; after just a couple years, TotorRo proved themselves to be one of the most solid rock groups in France and around the world.

Dutch cellist Roeland Duijne began to play the cello at the age of nine. He made his official debut in 1984 as soloist playing the Elgar Cello Concerto during a nationwide tour of Holland with the National University Orchestra. This was followed by numerous performances, many of which were televised, both at home and abroad.

Dutch violinist Pieter van Loenen graduated summa cum laude from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague in 2016. Pieter started playing the violin at the age of 6, from that young age onwards he has won several prizes at different competitions, including the Iordens Viooldagen, the Davina van Wely Vioolconcours, and the prestigious Prinses Christina Concours. In 2016, Pieter was awarded second prize as well as the Audience prize in the Dutch National Violin Competition.

In late February 1653, just after the Fronde rebellion, the most influential spectacle of the early reign of Louis XIV was created at the Louvre: the Ballet Royal de la Nuit. This concert is a program of whatever promises the Night, at the whim of allegories, entertainment and dreams. Grandiose, and carefully elaborated at the highest levels of the state, the libretto by Bensérade called upon the finest artists of the time. Banishing the troubles of Night, Louis XIV danced in the Sun King costume that would henceforth be for ever associated with him. This concert combines entire scenes of one of the most famous French court ballets, the Royal Ballet of the Night, and scenes of the first Italian operas in France (Luigi Rossi, Francesco Cavalli).

Jacques knits garlands of noise from the everyday sounds of nature and ordinary life.

Joyce Jonathan is a composer-songwriter part of the new wave of French pop.Sometimes at the guitar, sometimes at the piano, she will also be accompanied by her musicians. With several China tours under her belt, the 27 years old singer has gained a certain local notoriety. Her light, simple and memorable style is carried by folk guitar and a soft voice. Tales of the artist's tastes, love and family are given expression in both French and Chinese.

Nicole Donkers (1969) is an artist and independent designer who lives and works in The Hague, The Netherlands. She grew up in Surabaya, Indonesia where her father worked as a glass factory manager and her mother as an elementary school teacher. Her childhood in the East and her adult life in the West are sources of inspiration for her autonomous design and visual arts. They are also the places where her love for experimentation, culture and nature was developed.

The Marcel Duchamp Prize is a major prize for young French creatives (founded in 2000 by modern art collectors from ADIAF) and a coverted award in modern art. In 2017, a number of award winners will have their work shown in China, at the Times Museum in Guangzhou, commissioned by former director of the Pompidou Centre, Alfred Pacquement: Julien Prévieux, Cyprien Gaillard, Laurent Grasso, Latifa Echakhch, Dominique Gonzalez Foerster, Tatiana Trouvé, Kader Attia, Mathieu Mercier.

Photographer Maï Lucas, who casts her eye over youth on the streets of Kunming and Changsha, will exhibit her work in Guangzhou.

New Zealand Contemporary Artist Alvin Xiong has been invited to do a crossover event by the well-known American electrical car company TESLA in China. In this special event, Alvin presents ‘Contemporary Art Meets TESLA’ and his Solo Tour Exhibition ‘Fusion’ in TESLA’s stores. Alvin found some Contemporary Art elements in TESLA, such as innovation and creative thinking. He uses these elements as the bridge to connect the cross-fields. He also wants to use this project to investigate the possibility and extensibility of Contemporary Art in different industries.

Inside and Outside Stage: A Retrospective of Xia Liye’s Stage Art

Born in Shandong Province in 1935 and graduated from the Central Drama Academy, Xia Liye was the director of the Guangdong Stage Design Association. He worked at the Guangzhou Soldiers’ Modern Drama Troupe since 1963. This exhibition displays three of his representative artworks for stage design, which were influential from the 1960s to 1980s in the drama circle. Relative gouaches and sketches made for these three works are also on display.


Stories of Chaozhou Area: Paintings by Chen Tong

Being a painter, editor and publisher, Chen Tong has been teaching at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts for decades. He is also the founder of a famous book-store in Guangzhou. This exhibition displays the drawings and paintings by Chen Tong, which portray the people, landscapes, customs and history of Chaozhou area.

 

Traditional Chinese Painting and Calligraphy by Xu Qinsong, Xu Yuchang and Xu Hongji

Coming from the east of Guangdong Province, the three artists of this exhibition are all researchers of the Guangdong Research Institute of Culture and History. The modern landscapes by Xu Qinsong depict the great and imposing mountains and rivers in China. The bird-and-flower paintings by Xu Yuchang employ the techniques of free-hand brushwork of traditional Chinese painting. Xu Hongji’s calligraphy reflect his own personality with an individual style. They all aim at promoting traditional Chinese culture.

“I love sunshine and flowers. I would like to serve as roadside grasses or wild flowers, so as to bring life to the earth and to decorate the roads. This is my work as an artist”, says Professor Zheng Shuang, an extraordinary printmaking artist in contemporary China.

Born to a royal family in north China during wartime, Zheng Shuang spent her childhood and early years with hardship and misery. But the adversity of life did not discourage this optimistic artist since she loves nature and the bright sides of life. She’s sensitive to the sweetness and pleasure of everyday life. With deep affection for various flowers, plants and little animals, she enjoys discovering and revealing their purity, beauty and elegance.
