Guangzhou hosts investment promotion conference in Boston

The city of Guangzhou hosted an investment promotion conference and a communication seminar on Sino-US biotech development on July 11 at District Hall, in Boston.

The event was organized by the Guangzhou Liaison Office in Boston and undertaken by Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City Investment & Development Co Ltd (SSGKC).

Over 50 people from related institutions and organizations attended the meeting to explore ways to promote cooperation in biotech between Guangzhou and Boston, and between China and the US.

At the meeting, Tan Minghe, deputy secretary of the Party Working Committee of the Guangzhou Development District, introduced the basic situation and development prospects of Guangzhou Development District while SSGKC and Guangzhou International Bio Island introduced their policies on capital, technology and talent development.

Manager of the global affairs and international business strategy department of the Boston mayor's office, Sarah Delude, attended the event and delivered a speech, saying that Guangzhou and Boston have enjoyed close interactions since they established friendly cooperation and exchange relations in 2014 and she looks forward to further cooperation in the fields of biotechnology and talent.

Wen Limin, director of the Office of Technology Transfer and Licensing at Boston College, chaired an exchange meeting on boosting Sino-US biotech development and cooperation. Four guests, including Elizabeth Steel, vice president of the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council, Li Airong, chief researcher of Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard Medical School, Anthony DeOrsey, deputy general manager of business incubator Techcode (Greater Boston), and Hu Qiying, president of the New England Chapter of the Sino-American Pharmaceutical Professionals Association, participated, sharing their successful experiences of developing biotechnology in Boston and the latest prospects and trends on promoting development and cooperation in biotechnology between China and the United States.
