“Pandas” help Guangdong police to crack down on criminal gangs

During the first half of 2018, the crime rate in Guandong decreased 21% year-on-year, while a number of criminal gangs have been busted by Guangdong police, according to a press conference held by Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department on July 5th.

“Guangdong police launched three special operations to bust a number of gangs in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shantou and Foshan, seizing over 400 million illegal property and detaining 385 fugitives,” said Lin Weixiong, Deputy Director General of Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department. “Guangdong police vows to establish Guangdong as the most safe and stable region in China.”

Spokesman of Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department stated how Shenzhen police apprehended a gang in March this year, seizing case-related objects including vehicles, handguns, bullets, controlled knives and illegal properties. All the major suspects had been detained.

At the press conference, three whistleblowers wearing panda masks were rewarded with a total of 500 thousand RMB by Guangdong police, after providing clues that helped the police to make the arrests.

People who report valid clues leading to the arrest of criminal gangs will be rewarded up to half a million RMB, according to spokesman of Guangdong Provincial Security Department.

The whistleblower shall, within 60 days from the date of receiving the reward notice, receive it with valid ID; if he/she is entrusted by the whistleblower, he/she shall fill out the Power of Attorney with the valid identity documents; those who do not apply within the time limit shall be deemed to given up the reward.

Guangdong police indicated that all whistleblowers’ information are strictly confidential and protected.

According to Chinese Criminal Law, people who organize, lead or participate in criminal gangs, are involved in violent, criminal activities which violate economic and social order, will be sentenced from three to ten years in prison.
