Guangzhou ranks top 10 most attractive Chinese cities for expats

Recently, Guangzhou is voted as one of China’s 10 most attractive cities for foreigners in the Amazing China 2017 poll. It is the sixth time for the city to get the honor since 2011.

Shanghai, Beijing, Hefei, Qingdao, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Chengdu, Nanjing were the other cities that made the list.

The survey, now in its eighth year, is the only one included foreign experts as participants. Four Nobel Prize winners such as Mr. Andre Geim, who was awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics, had participated in the voting.

The poll was conducted from 4,066 signed votes from foreign experts in China and 25,494 votes from internet users.

Guangzhou has made effort to attract more foreign professionals into the city, which makes itself a hot destination for expats, according to Guangzhou Human Resources and Social Security Bureau.

In particular, Guangzhou has issued 3,300 "talent green cards" since May, 2016, which has been welcomed by many. That card enables holders to enjoy equal treatment with local citizens in purchasing property, vehicle license registration, bank account opening, etc.

In 2017, the city launched a lot of projects to lure top foreign experts, such as a new work permit application system to define foreign talents into three categories with a scoring system.

It held the 2017 Job Fair for Foreigners in Guangzhou with the hope of finding potential foreign employees in China. Also, the 2017 Convention on the Exchange of Overseas Talent attracted over 3500 participants from 31 countries and regions including America, German, Australia, etc.

Currently, the city has two experts on the list of National "1,000 Talent Plan for High-level Foreign Experts".

It is eager to attract more overseas expertise, technology and projects to become a national innovation central city and an international hub city.
