9 finalists to compete for Nansha hospital’s design contract

Nansha District recently announced the finalists of its design competition for the First Affiliated Hospital (Nansha Hospital), Sun Yat-sen University, and held a conference on March 6 to brief the project and answer questions from the competitors.

The design competition attracted more than 30 architectural companies from home and abroad to participate. Nine outstanding participants were selected as finalists, which consist of domestic architects as China Architecture Design Group, and overseas competitors, like NIKKEN SEKKEI and Woods Bagot.

According to the organizer, a review meeting is scheduled on April 26 to decide the competition’s final outcome. The winner will gain the hospital’s design contract while others will also be awarded 500 thousand to 2 million yuan (about US$ 79 thousand- 316 thousand).

The hospital project is jointly developed by Guangzhou’s sub-center, Nansha, and the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University which is a 3A hospital (the top level in China), with a total investment of about 4.52 billion yuan.

Once completed, it will be a medical research center in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and Nansha’s medical service, medical research and training abilities.
