This year, more than 3,000 overseas talents are set to attend the forum, including 350 experts from ‘The Thousand Talent Plan’ around 60% of whom hold doctor's degrees. A great number of them are from America, Japan and other developed European countries or countries along the Belt and Road.

The convention sees the attendance of over 100 domestic universities, bringing 2,000 projects and 10,000 job opportunities to the table.

Mr Kijimbi, an international student studying at South China University of Technology and majoring in computer science, said, “The convention is cool. I want to see the way technology is changing, and that’s why I decided to come here." He added he enjoyed seeing "a lot of leading technological products here".

A job fair for Global 500 companies is also held during the convention. More than 50 Fortune 500 companies including Foxconn, HSBC, Siemens, Toshiba, Wal-Mart, AEON, HNA, China Unicom, China Southern Power Grid, Sony, Honeywell, JD.com, Sinopec Group and China Railway Group participate in it.

In addition, a variety of exhibitions showcasing cutting-edge technological achievements like drones, AR, VR form part of the convention.

To build itself into a magnet for talents, Guangzhou has launched a series of policies and projects to attract more global talents. The convention announces the launch of the Kapok Plan. The city will support 30 enterprises run by overseas talent with a subsidy of up to a maximum of two million RMB a year from 2018 to 2022 through the Kapok Plan.

In recent years, Guangzhou is focusing on developing its “IAB” industry (IT/ICT, Artificial Intelligence, Biopharmaceutical) and “NEM” industry (New Energy, New Material). As a platform for talent exchange, the convention also organizes all kinds of exchange in areas of “IAB” and “NEM”.
