Shenzhen among fastest-growing tourism cities worldwide

Shenzhen was among the six Chinese cities who made it to the top 10 fastest-growing tourism cities in the world, the China Daily reported Wednesday, citing the World Travel and Tourism Council.

New city tourism impact data show that the world’s top 10 fastest-growing tourism cities are all in Asia, according to a report by the World Travel and Tourism Council, a global body looking at the contribution of travel and tourism to city economies and job creation.

The report “City Travel and Tourism Impact 2017” covered 65 global cities, chosen for being among the top ranked for arrivals and spending by visitors. And 21 cities were selected in the Asia-Pacific region.

The result showed that Asian cities will lead tourism growth in the next 10 years, with top 10 cities having growth rate of at least 10 percent each year, compared with the world average growth rate of 4 percent per year and Asia-Pacific’s 5.8 percent.

Shenzhen was ranked No. 8 with a year-on-year growth rate of 10.7 percent. Chongqing in Southweast China topped the list with an annual growth of 14 percent, followed by Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing and Chengdu. The rest four cities on the top-10 list were Jarkata (10), Kuala Lumpur (9), Delhi (7) and Manila (6).
