“Guangdong always attaches importance to drug enforcement,” said Zhai Kaixia, Director of Narcotic Control Bureau of Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department. “The number of drug related crimes have been decreasing in recent years.”

Furthermore, a delivery man wearing a Spiderman mask was rewarded with 300 thousand RMB by Guangdong police on the press conference after helping track down a drug operation in Guangzhou. According to Guangdong police, with the help of “Spider-Man”, they successfully seized 250 kilograms of crystal meth.

Zhai mentioned that, “from January to October, with citizens’ help, Guangdong police closed over 600 cases, and more than 5 million RMB has been paid out in rewards,” and went on to stress: “Guangdong police promises to protect personal information of whistleblowers.”.

Currently, Guangdong’s police force is playing an active part in international cooperation in the area of drug enforcement. A transnational drug ring was dismantled by Guangdong and Australian police in March this year, with more than 100 kilograms of crystal meth seized and 5 suspects detained.

According to Chinese Criminal Law, people who smuggle, sell or produce more than 50kg of hard drugs, such as heroin or crystal meth, will be sentenced to at least 15 years in prison, with the potential for life imprisonment or the death penalty.
