IN the beginning of August, the first batch of 113 Chinese students at Shenzhen MSU-BIT University, a non-profit Sino-foreign educational cooperation program jointly established by the Shenzhen government, Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) and Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), started university life at its transitional campus in Longgang District. After a four-week Russian language training program, students are beginning to learn professional knowledge.

Attracted by the advanced technology and strong academic atmosphere of Russia, freshman Guo Ziyi is enjoying his packed class schedule. While learning Russian, he is studying biology and nano-molecular materials while sitting in on other courses including history, ideological and political lessons and PE class.

More than half of the teaching faculty is from Lomonosov Moscow State University with Doctor of Sciences degrees of the Russian Federation and above. Dmitry Kryukov, who has 25 years of teaching experience and is working in the university’s Russian language center, said he is still adapting to the hot weather and spicy food here, and he is satisfied with the extra support provided by the school and the friendly working environment here. “We Russian teachers also practice tai chi with Chinese teachers.”

“Cooperative education is a hard-won opportunity through which the two countries can enrich each other, exchange ideas on technology and knowledge and get to know more about each other, therefore cultivating a new generation who have good knowledge of the Russian language and culture and also love Chinese culture,” said Anna Lileeva, who has 20 years of teaching experience and is working in the university’s Russian language center.
