2017 Convention on Exchange of Overseas Talent to be held from Dec. 20 to 21

The 2017 Convention on Exchange of Overseas Talent, as well as the 19th Guangzhou Convention of Overseas Chinese Scholars in Science and Technology (OCS) will be held from December 20 to 21 this year in Guangzhou, Guo Zhiyong, Head of Guangzhou Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, remarked during the press conference held in Beijing on November 7.

As the largest, highest level and most influential convention on overseas talent in China, this year's convention is committed to breaking the restrictions of nationality and territory.

It is estimated that the convention will attract more than 4,500 participants, with around 3,000 from foreign countries, including Nobel prize winners, famous academians, foreign students studying in China and more.

It is said that more events on bringing in talent will be held during the convention, such as Guangzhou Night, Summit Forum and talent recruitment.

Talent recruitment will first be held at 2017 OCS

According to the OCS committee, this year’s convention will see a series of activities and an atmosphere of innovation and pragmatism, to encourage more projects to get up and running.

“This year, Western Returned Scholars Association & Overseas-educated Scholars Association China will hold talent recruitment at 2017’s OCS, ” said Wang Pijun, Secretary General of Western Returned Scholars Association & Overseas-educated Scholars Association China. “The talent recruitment is going to set sub-conference in other domestic and foreign cities via the internet. ”

Guangzhou sent invitations to talents all over the world

During the press conference, Li Ming, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou, sent a sincere invitation to overseas talents.

“The previous 18 OCSs have attracted a total of over 40 thousand overseas talents to participate and 65% of whom are with a doctoral degree. The previous conventions also facilitated the launch of nearly 20 thousand projects, and over a half of them have been successfully landed,” said Li.

Last year was the first time that the OCS "upgraded" to an exchange convention for both overseas talents and Chinese scholars. Over 3300 foreign talents attended 2016’s OCS with more than 1000 science and technology projects.

In order to develop “Innovation Driven Development Strategy” and make Guangzhou a magnet for talent, Guangzhou Municipal Government has invested about 350 million yuan to overhaul its image these past 5 years.

In the last two years, Guangzhou has launched more attractive policies to lure overseas talents, such as the "talent green card policy" launched on May, 2016, which has been welcomed by many overseas talents.

That card enables holders to enjoy equal treatment with local citizens as regards purchasing property, vehicle license registration, children’s schooling, bank account opening, etc.
