The Chinese and English versions of Guangzhou's VR promotional video were officially unveiled at a press conference on flower city brand building held on September 14. A research report released at the conference also draws a blueprint for Guangzhou's flower city brand building: Guangzhou will strive to build a world-class flower city, which will be evidenced by holding the 2017 Guangzhou International Floral Art Exhibition as well as the annual conference of the World Flower Council (WFC).
The promotional video for the 2017 Fortune Global Forum presents the images of both old and contemporary Guangzhou, including Guangzhou as the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road, its advantageous geographical position as a key city in the Belt and Road Initiative, its technological innovations as well as its rich nightlife. It will be played at the Fortune Global Forum roadshows in San Francisco and Barcelona.
Zhu Xiaoyi, deputy director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee, said this is the first time for a host city of the Fortune Global Forum to use VR in a promotional video. It's also China's first city promotional VR video. "The VR promotional video will offer an audio-visual shock to viewers," said Zhu. "Filled with Guangzhou's creativity, it enables viewers to shuttle between the history and reality of the flower city.”
The research report suggests that Guangzhou follow a strategy of "cultivating five golden flowers" — building Guangzhou into an ecological city, a city of various industries, a livable city, a cultural city and a city known for regimen — with flowers in bloom all year round.
Also, the Guangzhou International Floral Art Exhibition, along with the WFC's annual conference, will open in Guangzhou on September 19 and last until September 24, according to Chen Xun, deputy director of the Administration of Forestry and Gardening of Guangzhou Municipality.

The WFC, headquartered in Florida (in the United States), has members from over 50 countries and regions. It holds large-scale annual gatherings in different countries and regions each year, which are commonly known as the "Olympics of the flower world."
The main venue of the Guangzhou floral art exhibition is the Guangzhou Opera House, while the subvenues include Yuexiu Park and No. 2 Children's Palace. The total exhibition area exceeds 15,000 square meters. About 200 flower artists from 32 countries and regions will participate in the exhibition and conference, according to the organizers. More than 200 international flower art works will be displayed at the Guangzhou Opera House and several related activities will be held during the event.
On the evening of September 19, the flower art exhibition will hold a lighting ceremony at the Canton Tower and the guests from home and abroad and Guangzhou residents will see the event's slogans in both Chinese and English — “2017 Guangzhou International Floral Art Exhibition” and “Fragrance Embrace” — scrolling on the screen of the Canton Tower. To improve the display effects of the floral art works at night, the event's organizing committee has made ingenious lighting arrangements to complement with the night scenes on the banks of the Pearl River.
