Yang Chuan, director of the managing committee of the Hengqin New Area

A promotion meeting on the investment environment in Zhuhai City and the first China-Latin America and Caribbean International Exposition was held in Hong Kong on Aug. 25, the website cnr.cn reported.

Lu Xiaofeng, deputy mayor of Zhuhai, said that once the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge opens at the end of this year, Zhuhai will become the first city in China with a direct land link to both Hong Kong and Macao.

Zhuhai is planning to build a Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge economic zone covering 26 square kilometers, with Hengqin as its center, said Yang Chuan, director of the managing committee of the Hengqin New Area.

He believed that, after eight years of development, Hengqin has formed an international, legal and market-oriented business environment similar to Hong Kong and Macao, so that cooperation between Hengqin and Hong Kong has entered a golden era.

According to Yang, the bridge will provide a concentration effect to the flow of people, logistics, capital and information. The economic zone will focus on international trade, storage and logistics, cross-border e-commerce, display and trade, procurement and settlement and information services.

A Zhuhai-Hong Kong-Macao logistics cooperation park is also planned in the economic zone.

Some 668 Hong Kong enterprises have registered to establish a presence in Hengqin so far, with a total investment of 79.2 billion yuan.
