On May 15, a roadshow meeting “Guangzhou Dialogue with Fortune Global 500” was held in Taipei City, southeast China's Taiwan. This is the 7th stop of the 2017 Fortune Global Forum roadshow.

180 guests took part in the roadshow meeting, including representatives of Fortune Global 500 enterprises and leading enterprises. Speeches were made by former chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation Chiang Pin-kung, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou Cai Chaolin, and Executive Editor of International of Time Inc. Clay Chandler.

In his speech, Cai Chaolin pointed out that the economy and trade exchange between Taiwan and Guangzhou goes back to ancient times. In the last 30 years, investment and trade have been increasing between the two regions, presenting a very good momentum of rapid growth. Especially in recent years, many well-known Taiwanese enterprises have settled or will settle down in Guangzhou, such as Neoglory, Quanta Computer, Tatung Co., Bank of Taiwan, and China Citic Bank.

The construction of Foxconn 10.5-generation panel plant invested by Sakai Display Products Corporation started in Zengcheng District, Guangzhou this March. The total investment of this project is over 60 billion RMB, which is the biggest single investment in Guangzhou since the reform and opening-up. It is estimated that the annual value of production will reach 100 billion RMB when the plant reaches design capacity, and it will attract about 100 enterprises in the industrial chain to invest in Guangzhou.

Many other world-famous multinational enterprises including Cisco and GE have also quickened their pace in settling down in Guangzhou. So far, 288 enterprises of Fortune Global 500 have settled down in the city.

According to Cai Chaolin, Guangzhou is favored by so many multinational corporations because it ranks 1st as city of opportunities in China, it is a forward position for opening up and cooperation, it is a hub connecting the world, it is a hometown of innovation and entrepreneurship, and it is a metropolis with ecological and livable civic environment.

According to statistics, there are 3,119 Taiwan-funded enterprises in Guangzhou by this March, with a total investment of over 14.36 billion USD and contract investment from Taiwan of 9.45 billion USD. Economic and trade cooperation with mutual benefit and win-win result has brought the two regions closer, and that’s also an important reason why Guangzhou chose Taipei as the 7th stop of its roadshow.

The roadshow meeting was hosted by Guangzhou Municipal Government, led by Guangzhou Municipal Commission of Commerce and Taiwan Affairs Office of Guangzhou Municipal Government, and organized by Zengcheng District.

The 2017 Fortune Global Forum will be held in Guangzhou on December 6-8. At present, its global roadshow is underway smoothly, with successful roadshows in Paris, Hong Kong, New York, Washington D.C., Tokyo and Singapore.
