Fortune 500 company China CEFC Energy Company Limited signed a strategic cooperation agreement with United International College (UIC) on March 7. Also, another two agreements were inked on the same day which will see CEFC China sponsor the construction and development of UIC’s new campus and Institute for Communication Studies of Chinese Culture, Nanfang Daily reports.
Mr Chen Qiang, vice president of the company and Prof Ng Ching-Fai, UIC President, represented both parties to witness the signing ceremonies.
UIC, situated in Zhuhai and jointly founded by Beijing Normal University and Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), is the first full-scale cooperation in higher education between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong.
According to the agreements, CEFC will support UIC’s development by donating 14.2 million yuan (about US$2.1 million), in recognizing its educational innovation. In addition to backing the college inbuilding its new campus, the fund will ensure its academic excellence, conduct high standard research and enhance cultural exchanges between China and other countries. CEFC will also establish and name a scholarship to aid UIC students.
CEFC and UIC will also explore possibilities of cooperation in student internships, placements, professional training, research and more.
