The GDP in Guangzhou hits 1.96 trillion yuan (284 billion USD) in 2016, up 8.2% year on year, according to the municipal statistics bureau on Jan 24.
The city's GDP growth rate outpaces both Guangdong Province (7.5%) and China (6.7%). Also, the import and export volume up 3.1% compared with the provincial total (-0.8%) and national total (-0.9%).
Last year the breakdown of Guangzhou's three industries was 1.22 : 30.22 : 68.56. The tertiary industry (service industry) takes up 77% of the city's economic growth.
In addition, consumption and investment contributed a lot for the city's economic development. The fixed-asset investment up 8% to 570.3 billion yuan and the retail sales of consumer goods up over 9% to 870.6 billion yuan.
