How Microsoft seeks global opportunities with tech enterprises in Guangdong?

Alain Crozier, Microsoft CEO of Greater China Region, said in a recent interview that Microsoft was cooperating with over 140 hardware suppliers and produced more than 300 products in the China Technology Ecosystem (CTE) located in Shenzhen.

These products were sold to 75 countries and regions worldwide, which have brought Microsoft over 8 billion yuan revenue by November 2016 since the establishment of CTE in 2015.

“Most hardware applied to the HoloLens, the company’s mixed-reality headset, and the Surface Hub, its big data visualized system, are supplied by companies in the CTE”, said Shen Xiangyang, Microsoft vice executive president.

Shenzhen-based Huawei, is Microsoft’s long-term strategic partner. Microsoft and Huawei deepened their cooperation in 2016 as Huawei decided to install Windows 10 for its 100 thousand users.

Microsoft started cooperating with Guangzhou-based vip.com in 2016. Vip.com is the world’s biggest online outlet with 200 million registered users and 800 thousand daily orders. Vip.com turned to Microsoft’s Azure, the cloud platform, to improve customized shopping experience and expand its e-commerce service to the global market.

Apart from opportunities from local tech manufacturers and brands, Alain Crozier said Guangdong’s support for innovative talents would be one of the major attractiveness for transnational corporations to invest here.

The company started its plan to build a cloud and mobile technology incubator in Liwan district of Guangzhou in 2016. The plan unites Microsoft, its recognized operators and Liwan government to provide entrepreneurs space and support service in the fields as cloud computing and big data.

“Microsoft signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Guangdong government back in 2014,” said Alain Crozier, “Guangdong provide us with nice investment environment in terms of its location, policies, transportation system and environment protection.”

“And we now see more opportunities as the province deepens cooperation among local regions, and between Hong Kong and Macau,” said Crozier.

In fact, the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province conducted various expos as well as overseas visits to seek cooperation with and investment from foreign enterprises in 2016.

The department invited 11 American robot institutes and enterprises, including InTeahouse and iRobot, to meet with over 150 local robot enterprises for cooperation in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Foshan last year.

InTeahouse and iRobot have signed contract with the local department and decided to establish a robot tech center soon in Guangdong.

With the department’s effort to attract foreign programs and investment, Guangdong introduced 147 large-scale foreign investment programs with over $100 million in 2016.
