Wowing to protect blue sky, Guangdong has determined to stop planning new coal-based power projects, which is one main reason for air pollution, and make sure that in 2020 Guangdong will have no heavy-polluted days.

Lu Xiulu, head of Department of Environmental Protection of Guangdong Province, presented this at the press conference during the 5th session of the 12th Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress.

Compared with Yangzte River Delta Region and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, Guangdong enjoys better weather with less pollution. Blue sky has gradually become a highlight for Guangdong’s weather, In 2016 Huizhou, Zhuhai and Shenzhen of Guangdong have been listed in top 10 cities in China with best air quality.

However, at the beginning of January this year, heavy smog attacked Guangdong and many cities in Pearl River Delta region witnessed bad weather with heavy air pollution. Lu admitted that Guangdong still faced big challenges in air protection.
