Hu Chunhua: Develop Nansha FTZ into a hub for high-level opening-up

Nansha Area of Guangdong FTZ should develop into a hub for high-level opening up, said Hu Chunhua, Party Chief of Guangdong Province on a group discussion with Guangzhou delegation at the 5th session of 11th Guangdong Provincial People's Congress.

According to Hu, the construction of FTZ is necessary for further Guangdong's opening up, Guangzhou should focus on the development of Nansha Area of Guangdong FTZ, building it to be a hub for foreign trade and investment as well as to help local enterprises go global.

Nansha should take international advanced experience as reference to create top international business environment and deepen the cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao. Regional competitiveness should be reinforced by increasing collaboration with Qianhai of Shenzhen, Hengqin of Zhuhai and Cuiheng of Zhonghsan.

Backgrounder:

Up to now, Nansha FTZ has attracted lots of attention home and aboard. In the past five years, there are 12,800 newly-established enterprises settle down there, 820 of which are financial or related companies.

The International Production Capacity and International Technology Cooperation Promotion Center, a state-level strategic platform settles down at Nansha FTZ recently, for supporting the registration of International Cooperation Center Belt and Road Institute in Nansha and the roll-out of relevant business.

By the end of December, 2016, 1,007 cross-border e-commerce enterprises run their business at Nansha FTZ. From January to November of last year, Nansha FTZ saw 13.62 million bills of imported product value at almost 2.69 billion yuan. Besides, over 40,000 bills of cross-border products are distributed all over the country from Nansha bonded port.
