Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge construction to finish by the end of 2017

Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge construction is due to be finished by the end of this year, introduced He Ningka, Director General of Guangdong Development and Reform Commission, when attending the press conference during the 5th session of the 12th Guangdong Provincial People's Congress on January 20th.

He emphasized that the construction of this bridge has been one key project for closering the ties of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and now Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao are sparing no efforts to achieve the goal.

Last month the main section of the cross-sea bridge was completed. As the world's longest cross-sea bridge, its construction started on Dec 15, 2009. Sponsored by the central government and the local governments of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, the bridge has cost 72 billion yuan ($10.86 billion). The six-lane bridge runs for 49.96 kilometers and is expected to carry a speed limit of 100 kph.

The bridge was the first huge project co-constructed by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and will boost cooperations among three places, commented by Phoenix Television, a famous TV in Hong Kong.

Moreover, the Pearl River Delta Bay Area (PRDBA), including 9 cities of the Pearl River Delta (PRD), Hong Kong and Macao, has become a hot topic during the session. Last month National Development and Reform Committee (NDRC) announced that a plan would be made to enhance the country's city cluster development and Pearl River Delta Bay was included.

He Ningka revealed yesterday when attending Zhuhai group discussion that Guangdong Development and Reform Commission has started to compile the plan for PRDBA.
