The American Chamber of Commerce in South China (AmCham South China), as its 7th consecutive annual charity effort, brought a large group of business and community leaders including executives from multinational corporations to Wuxing Village and the nearby impoverished villages this week.
As a poverty-stricken village by provincial standard under the administration of Meizhou City, Wuxing Village has a registered population of 5000 people, including 285 individuals of 81 poverty-stricken households. AmCham South China’s fundraising efforts this year collected in-kind donations worth over RMB 254,100, covering clothing, computers, educational materials, bedding, food and beverage from the member companies.
As part of its overall charity activities, AmCham South China also coordinated cash donation of RMB230,000 by chamber’s generous members Mead Johnson Nutrition and Jingxing Real Estate to the Guangzhou Youth Development Foundation. These funds will be used to save lives of orphaned children in need of immediate life-saving surgery, and to help raise Wuxing Village above the poverty line.
